This historic property, built in 1840, is situated on an acre and a half in a peaceful country setting, yet we are conveniently located to numerous local attractions.
We are located on the site of the first Fulling Mill (woolen mill) (1860) in the state of Pennsylvania and one of three mills in the entire nation. Originally named “Good’s Mill”, The process of a Fulling Mill was to render raw wool into woolen blankets, carpets, and yarn goods. This was accomplished by shrinking and beating the fabric with a hammer, like waulking, and shrinking it to make it dense. After an “out of doors” drying period, the material was “teased” with a goad (a large spike filled weed) that softened the woolen blanket much like teasing does to human hair!
This property is currently owned and operated by Duane and Paula Rhodes. It has been passed through the family as a treasured heirloom that they would love to share with you!
